GLUSBURN Community and Arts Centre at Glusburn Institute has been awarded an £18,500 Coronavirus Community Support Fund grant distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund to enable it to provide extra support activities and events during the pandemic to the South Craven and wider community.

Action to this end had already started and the trustees have been pleased to welcome back many existing user groups to the COVID Secure venue; reduce room rates until March 31, 2021, recognising that social distancing reduces group capacity.

It is also encouraging new groups which will be supporting the very young, youth and the elderly.

In addition it has arranged a family theatre production with Falling Stars Theatre for the Christmas period, and is screening more films for a family audience at a discounted price.

It is working on new activities and events including providing skills-based short courses such as cookery, pre-driving, coding, animation, fashion in the newly refurbished Studio and running a pop-up cafe on a regular basis.

Prior to the pandemic, Glusburn Institute provided activities and events for 700 people weekly on average.

The funding will help it to keep its doors open and enable it to provide support to the community.
