HOME-shopping giant Damart gave its backing to a centenarian fundraiser who was inspired by the exploits of Keighley’s Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Ruth Saunders, 104, walked that number of laps around the streets of her neighbourhood in Newbury to raise money for the Thames Valley Air Ambulance Service.
Her target was £500, but she raised nearly £34,000.
Damart – whose warehousing facility is at Steeton – gave Ruth clothing and a £500 donation.
Ben Phillips, the company’s head of e-commerce, said: “We were inspired by Ruth’s heroic efforts to support her local emergency services and wanted to show our backing by donating an outfit and thermal coat to help keep her warm and comfortable on her inspirational walk. We were also pleased to be able to support her with a financial donation.
“We are always keen to champion the older generation – and at 104 years old, this is an outstanding achievement by Ruth.”
Ruth’s granddaughter, Kate Saunders, said: “We can’t thank Damart enough for all the lovely support they have shown.”
