A KEIGHLEY supermarket will lack glitter this Christmas – but it’s delighted!
Morrisons – which has a store in Worth Way – has removed glitter totally from its own-brand Christmas cards, crackers, wrapping paper, gift bags, decorations, wreaths and other festive items.
The company says glitter is made from tiny particles of plastic and is an “ecological hazard” if it becomes dispersed on land, rivers and oceans – taking hundreds of years to degrade.
Other non-seasonal goods available year-round will also have their glitter removed as part of the initiative.
Christine Bryce, for Morrisons, said: “Every time a cracker is pulled, or a card is opened, plastics have been used – but just the once.
“We’ve taken glitter and plastic out of our festive range this year, so that our customers can enjoy their festivities without worrying about the environmental impact.
“This means that we’re now 100 per cent glitter-free across all our own-brand ranges.
“It is an important step in the fight against plastic pollution.”
