HERE we step back in time with a look at Keighley’s then newly-opened shopping centre.
Covering an area of 183,559 square feet, with more than 70 shop units and an annual footfall in those early years of seven million visitors, the centre was launched in May, 1968.
Officially opened by Bradford Council, the centre’s location caused a huge shift in the town’s retail focus, as it was constructed across several of Keighley’s main shopping thoroughfares – including Brunswick Street, Cook Lane and College Street.
Some of the once-familiar high street names, such as Woolworths, alas have disappeared.
