CLIFFE Castle did not reopen as planned last month and no date has been given for its reopening.

Bradford Council closed the doors to all its museums and galleries last month within days of beginning its long-awaited reopening programme.

Bradford Industrial Museum reopened first in the middle of August, and was due to be followed by others including Cliffe Castle Museum on August 25.

The day before the planned reopening, Cliffe Castle Support Group revealed that the plans been scrapped.

A council spokesman said the Museums Service was following national guidelines around managing the impact of coronavirus close its properties until further notice.

The spokesman added: "We will monitor developments and follow government guidance on when it may be appropriate for us to reopen.

"In the meantime, we will continue to share stories around our collections and the work that we do through our social media accounts, website and e-newsletters.

"Many of the sites we run are in or by parks – Cliffe Castle Park, Lister Park and Bowling Park remain open to explore (abiding by social distancing guidelines of course). We'd love to see (and share) some of your photographs of the parks."
