CASH aid could be given to Keighley-district projects that help young people to support each other through bereavement.

The Co-op Foundation and Co-op Funeralcare are awarding grants of up to £10,000 through the #iwill Fund.

Schemes which help build confidence, skills and a sense of belonging among young bereaved people, while helping them to make a long-term impact on their peers who have gone through similar experiences, could benefit.

Organisations have until July 31 to express an interest – visit coopfoundation.org.uk/funding_support/iwill-fund-bereavement.

The Co-op has published a report which highlights a devastating impact on the region’s ability to grieve during lockdown and warns of a potential “grief pandemic”.

Research commissioned by Co-op Funeralcare reveals that in the weeks following the start of lockdown, 59 per cent of bereaved adults regionally were denied the chance to say a final farewell.

A spokesman said: “Although a necessary measure to protect our nation during the pandemic, the restrictions on the number of funeral attendees mean many people have been unable to attend a loved one’s funeral. Funerals play an intrinsic part in the grieving process.”
