AN Airedale Hospital worker has produced a portrait of Keighley-born fundraising sensation Captain Sir Tom Moore.
Fernandes Varghese, who works in sterile services at the hospital, created the picture in honour of Captain Moore’s contribution to the NHS.
Mr Varghese, who lives at Steeton, produced the work in his spare time.
He has presented the finished portrait to the hospital and it will be displayed in the main reception area, close to a plaque unveiled in tribute to the fundraising war veteran.
Captain Moore, who now lives in Bedfordshire, set out to walk 100 laps of his garden by his 100th birthday to raise money for NHS charities.
His original target was to raise £1,000, but his exploits captured the nation’s hearts and he coined-in nearly £33 million.
He has since received a string of awards and honours, including a knighthood, and even topped the pop charts.
The former pupil of Keighley Boys’ Grammar School served with the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment during the war.
