KEIGHLEY’S star gardener is ensuring Keighley stays in bloom despite this year’s cancellation of the actual Keighley in Bloom.

He has teamed up with his supplier Gardenius Nurseries to provide and maintain flower baskets on busy town centre streets.

Steve and son Joe have previously bought Keighley in Bloom flowers from the Halifax-based nursery, but this year it is supplying them without charge.

Meanwhile the father-and-son gardening business are providing free care for the 22 baskets throughout summer, including regular watering.

Steve said the baskets would be attached to pavement barriers on North Street and Cavendish Street and would be visible to both pedestrians and drivers.

He said: “Keighley people have had it tough for the past few months but they are starting to go out again and want a bit of colour to cheer them up.”

Steve and Joe create the floral displays at the nearby town hall square, and are supporting calls to transform the grassed-over former Keighley College site on North Street into an urban park.
