A CONONLEY man is canvassing support for an NHS Heroes Day.

The event would be held annually, once the coronavirus crisis is over, in tribute to the work of health service staff during the emergency.

“They are on the frontline in the battle to save lives from Covid-19 much as fighter pilots did saving the nation’s lives during the Battle of Britain in World War Two,” says Robert Minton-Taylor, who is proposing the special day.

“We owe the NHS a deep sense of gratitude for the unselfish work it has performed. The proposal would be to honour the NHS heroes of Covid-19 on a specific day each year, when life returns to normal.”

He is asking people to sign a petition to the Government in support of the day, at petition.parliament.uk/petitions/314859/sponsors/new?token=q-ST8wPExyepppItu-CE.

“There isn’t a single UK citizen who has not benefitted sometime in their lives from the help and support of the NHS and it has been the backbone of saving lives and restoring people to full health during the pandemic,” added Mr Minton-Taylor.
