DETAILED plans have been drawn-up for every council ward in Keighley and across Bradford to direct support to communities and the vulnerable most in need of help during the coronavirus crisis.

And an extra £1,000 has been allocated by Bradford Council to each of the district’s 30 wards, for councillors to invest in projects that best address their neighbourhoods’ needs.

Beneficiaries could include foodbanks or community groups that are helping vulnerable residents.

Council members are working with partner organisations in their areas in a bid to ensure the funds achieve maximum effect.

The ward plans have been produced by councillors and officers.

Each document includes information about the demographics of the ward – such as the size of the population, the numbers of elderly and vulnerable people, the volunteers available locally and the key buildings and services that will help support and maintain local provision.

A council spokesman said: “The ward-level work is focused around maintaining the food supply, deliveries and foodbank network for vulnerable residents, whose names and addresses are being collated.

“The ward plans are also helping to co-ordinate activity by matching local volunteers with requests for help.”

Councillor Abdul Jabar, Bradford Council’s executive member for neighbourhoods and community safety, said: “I’ve set-up this ward-based network of support with council officers so that the people and services on the ground get the help to where it’s most needed.

“As councillors we are using our local knowledge to identify and get help out to our fellow citizens who need our support.

“Councillors and officers in all 30 wards are drawing-up their plans so the network of support across the district is not only comprehensive, but uses local assets to meet local need.”

He also praises the many people across the district who have come forward since the start of the emergency to offer their services.

“I want to pay tribute to all the volunteers who have stepped forward at this time of need – they are making an incredible contribution,” he said.

“Anyone else who is able to volunteer their efforts and skills can contact the council on 01274 431000 or visit the Covid-19 section of the council website, at bradford.gov.uk.

“People are also able to help by please making donations if they can to their local foodbank.”
