AN organisation with a branch in the Worth Valley is bringing colour to the lives of many of its members.

The Yorkshire Countrywomen’s Association is distributing free packets of flower seeds to those self-isolating due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A large proportion of the organisation’s members are aged over 70 or in the Government’s vulnerable category.

The seeds are being posted out in an initiative supported by Yorkshire Water.

Angela Kay, the association’s secretary, said: “We are going to do whatever we can to ensure our members are kept engaged mentally and physically over the coming weeks and we were delighted when Yorkshire Water so readily agreed to provide our members with a packet of seeds each. We can’t thank the company enough for its generosity.

“We will encourage members to grow the seeds on their windowsills, bringing colour into their view and a feeling of wellbeing. This will be particularly beneficial for those living in apartments and rooms or with limited mobility, bringing nature a step closer to them.”

Emily Brady, marketing manager for Yorkshire Water, said the firm was delighted to provide support.

“It’s a challenging time for everyone at the moment and it’s so important we all try to focus on keeping positive,” she added.
