BRADFORD Council has closed its household waste recycling centres – including the sites at Royd Ings Avenue, Keighley, and Sugden End, Cross Roads.

The council says it needs to prioritise its resources as it starts to see a shortage of staff in some areas due to the coronavirus crisis.

The centres will remain closed until further notice.

Bradford Council's bulk waste collection service will operate for pre-arranged collections until this Friday (March 27), and will then be suspended.

Household bin collections should take place as normal.

And people who subscribe to the garden waste service should put their bin out as usual.

"If your garden waste bin does not get collected when it is due please leave it out and we will pick it up as soon as we can," said a spokesman.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, executive member for healthy people and places, said: “We are having to do all we can to prioritise essential services and our heroic frontline staff are working as hard as possible to keep the district moving through this difficult time."
