DIY became VIY at Parkside School as students took part in the Volunteer It Yourself Challenge.

They put together seven new picnic tables and a bench donated by DIY store Wickes.

Sue Stewart, the Cullingworth school's Careers Leader, said the students seemed to really enjoy the challenge.

She said: "The end results were amazing! The representatives from Wickes were amazed at how quickly the students made the products.

"The tables and bench need varnishing first and they can then be placed around school.

"Once they are finished and in place, we will get a small plaque for each one, with all the students’ names on to leave as a legacy."

Imran from Wickes said his staff had a fantastic time working with the different year groups, adding: "It's amazing how much they have achieved in such a short space of time!”

The students said they enjoyed the new experience, including learning new skills such as cutting wood and drilling.
