PARENTS and teachers curried up some new toys for their village school's break times.

The School Council at Cullingworth Village Primary School asked for some of the worn-out lunchtime play toys to be replaced.

Members of the school's Friends group decided to donate the profits from their planned Curry and Quiz night to fulfil the request.

The event at Cullingworth Village Hall last month was a fantastic success, raising £532.

Friends chairman Jo Worsnop said: "We had talked about raising funds for something which would benefit all the children from reception to year six so this request from the School Council was ideal."

The School Council is made up of children from each year group who take suggestions from their class members to the meetings.

Almost half of the money has already been spent on toys that have been shared around the school's three playgrounds, and are already being put to good use.

The Friends the group is coordinated by a committee of parents and teachers who volunteer their time to enhance the experience of children at the school.

They recently donated an £5,000 which the school is using to make improvements to their library.

Now the Friends are looking into ways to spend the remainder of the money raised to offer further exciting play opportunities for the children at lunchtime.
