PUPILS of Glusburn Primary School were among a team from South Craven schools who emerged from the water victorious in a recent swimming tournament.

The three Glusburn students were joined by children from schools in Lothersdale, Cononley, Kildwick, Cowling and Sutton to represent South Craven district in the Craven finals.

They competed against Craven, Upper Wharfedale and Skipton in a range of individual races for backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

The tournament finished with a medley relay and a freestyle relay.

School head Richard Hunt said: "This is fantastic news for the school who have recently been crowned North Yorkshire Football Champions and Craven Athletics Champions!"

Mr Hunt said that from nursery to year six, the school wanted people to develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities.

He added: "Most importantly we feel that being active is beneficial to children's mental health and well-being.

"There is superb leadership of Physical Education by class teacher and Head of PE Becky Gill, accompanied accompanied by sports coach Adam Smith and staff who actively and enthusiastically support these events and lead lessons.

"All this has ensured that Glusburn School pupils are able to engage in competitive sports and activities and most importantly, lead healthy, active lives."
