A FORMER furniture shop could become the district’s latest micropub.

Planning permission is being sought to convert the currently-vacant premises – at 70 Haworth Road, Cross Roads – into a bar called the Burnt Bear.

The application – submitted by Kathryn Thornton, of Bronte Bars & Events – would see the conversion of the 60-square-metre ground-floor unit to a bar that could also be used for “a space for business meetings, tasting experiences and for hire for community use”.

The applicant adds: “We would want to offer smart leading craft ales, small-batch exclusive spirits for retail sale and served drinks which are not necessarily sold in supermarkets or on the high street.”

A decision on the planning application is expected in early March.

Plans are also currently pending a decision by Bradford Council for the conversion of a disused shop at 62 Cavendish Street, Keighley, into a micropub. The premises were occupied by 2nd Time Around, which relocated to Low Street.
