MARGARET Wintringham grew up in Silsden and became the first British woman to become an MP in the Houses of Parliament, representing Louth in Lincolnshire during the 1920s.
In the decades after she was regularly invited as a guest to events in Silsden, such as this occasion where she was cutting a cake for what is believed to be a United Churches event in 1954, the year before she died.
The man wearing a mayoral chain is Arthur Watson, chairman of Silsden Urban District Council, while the vicar is the Rev William McKee of St James’ Parish Church. The other cleric is Primitive Methodist minister the Rev J W Tong.
