KEIGHLEY’s biggest annual panto will once again be Cinderella as a leading local theatre group returns to the perennial favourite.

Keighley Musical Theatre Company promises a treat for the entire family as it stages the classic story of a downtrodden girl marrying a prince.

The show will be performed eight times at Victoria Hall, including three afternoon performances and two teatime performances.

KMTC chairman Louise Hindle-Barton said: “We are proud to continue the tradition of providing top quality pantomimes and are sure audiences will love the chance to share in the escapism of romance, drama and downright silliness!”

KMTC spokesman David Brett, who also took the pictures on this page, said Cinderella was regarded as the most popular of all pantomimes with its enduring theme of ‘rags to riches’ and true love crossing the social divides.

He said: “ As well the romance, our version is very much a fun-filled family show written by the kings of panto Keith Marsden and Geoffrey Rundle, with updates by Mark Coulthard.

“We once again take you to the town of Stonybroke with fresh new comedy and a blend of experienced performers along with some of our younger members who are now ready to take on the principal roles.”

The show will again be directed by Peter Whitley and Judith Chapman, with Judith also choreographing the cast of 45 with musical direction from Geoff Garrett.

Mr Brett added: “Leading the talented company is Leanne Watson as Cinderella, and Sarah Chapman as Prince Charming, the principal boy.

“Alice Chapman, Prince Charming’s sister in real life, takes on the role of Dandini. Providing the comedy are James Windle as Buttons, and our dame duo, ugly sisters Dean Harness (Josephine) and Lee Wallace (Dierdre).

“Following on from his recent success in Oliver, Hairspray and the Genie in Aladdin, Jonny Tate will play Baron Hardup.

“The two hapless rent collectors Snatchem and Grabbem are played by Phoenix Bass and Toby Garbutt. Andrew Akhurst joins the society in his first role as the Town Crier.

“Best of all we once again have a magnificent line-up of amazing dancers and adorable kiddies and a great supporting cast too!”

Cinderella will be performed on on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday January 28, 29 and 31 at 7.15pm; Sunday January 26 at 2.15pm; and Saturdays January 25 and February 1 at both 1pm and 6pm.
