DEMENTIA Friendly Keighley is looking for new trustees as it prepares to move into bigger premises in the town centre.

The charity is looking for people with specific skills and expertise but would also welcome members of the public who simply wish to support its work.

DFK chairman Jan Smithies said the existing "dynamic, committed and friendly" board of directors wanted to find specialists in marketing and PR, finance and accountancy, secretarial, human resources, fundraising and the law.

She added: "We are open to hearing from anyone who feels, as we do, that raising awareness of, and providing information and support to people living with or caring for someone with dementia is an important part of Keighley life.

"In additional a trustee role with DFK may be helpful to your personal CV and/or your company’s Corporate Social Responsibility profile."

DFK is currently based in the Brunswick Arcade in the Airedale Shopping Centre, but in early February will move to bigger premises at 48 Towngate, opposite the lower end of the bus station.

Jan said: "We are currently renovating the new space with enormous voluntary help from staff from Bryant Plastics who came in Christmas week and did an some internal demolition work, cleaning and painting, along with Steve Seymour from the Airedale Shopping Centre who has done a huge amount of voluntary work to help get the building ready and fit for purpose.

"We are a small but growing voluntary organisation working to change the way communities in Keighley think, talk and act about dementia.

"We run open drop-in sessions in our shop-front premises to provide people living with dementia and their carers, or indeed the general public, with support, information and sign-posting to other services.

"We also run a range of activity and support groups for people living with dementia and those caring for people with dementia, such as art, tai-chi and singing."

DFK can provide support and training regarding the role of a trustee if needed.
