FRANK Spencer once again steps into chaos as the accident-prone 1970s comedy hero comes to the stage. The live version of BBC sitcom Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em can be seen at the Grand Theatre in Leeds on June 23-27.

The play is just one of many laughter-inducing shows promised for 2020 at venues across the city.

Joe Pasquale takes the part originally played by Michael Crawford, with Sarah Earnshaw as his long-suffering wife Betty and Susie Blake as his disapproving mother-in-law. Joe said: “After 30 years in showbusiness, this has been the role of a lifetime for me.”

The Mouth of the South himself, stand-up comic Rob Beckett, will bring his latest tour Wallop! to the Grand Theatre on March 8. The Guardian newspaper described him as a “relentlessly smiley, perpetually grinning Londoner whose unshowy, unpretentious but thoroughly funny shtick has every chance of winning him a big audience”.

Ireland’s funniest YouTubers, Foil Arms and Hog, first hit the stage last summer and earned reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

They take the same show, Swines, to Leeds Town Hall on March 11, presenting what Chortle website called “an effervescent hour of fast-paced gags, fizzing with energy, invention and great lines”.

There will be scripted nonsense, twisted characters, music, and unintentional improvisation, as Sean Finegan (Foil), Conor McKenna (Arms) and Sean Flanagan (Hog), who met at University College Dublin while studying architecture, engineering and genetics, pursue the noble art of being downright silly, yet observational, topical and refreshingly philosophical.

Delightful and lovable raconteur Stephen K Amos will perform his latest show Everyman at Leeds City Varieties on January 26.

A spokesman said: “It’s easy to feel angry when mad talking heads and evil officials are looking for any slight difference of opinion to plough open and exploit. We need an everyman to bring people together, using the most powerful tool we have: Stephen K Amos!”

Stand-up comic Ross Noble is to present his latest show Humournoid at Leeds Town Hall in May 31 as the last date of a massive tour. Another comedy star, Ed Byrne, a regular on Mock The Week, can be seen at Leeds City Varieties on January 23.

An Evening With Vic & Bob sees Reeves and Mortimer back together on stage, explaining all about their career and answering questions, on February11 and 12 at Leeds City Varieties.
