MEMBERS of Keighley’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association (AMYA) took to the streets on New Year’s Day to carry out a clean-up.
Following a special prayer session, the team donned high-visibility jackets to pick-up litter across the town centre.
The initiative was part of a UK-wide Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association winter campaign. It has also seen members take part in activities including tree planting, feeding the homeless and visiting children in hospital.
Dr Adeem Rubani, youth leader with AMYA Keighley, said: “We’ve been doing the new year clean-up for many years now and each time we see more and more members coming along to help.
“Islam urges every Muslim to partake in charitable giving and community service and to promote cleanliness.
“AMYA instils in young people a sense of civic responsibility and a desire to promote harmony within our communities.
“The New Year’s Day clean-up campaign ensures Muslim youth can be active members of society and serve the environment.”
As Ahmadi Muslims, the year began with congregational prayer.
