KEIGHLEY children can get close to a T Rex and a Raptor as they become Dinosaur Rangers next month.

They can meet the animatronic monsters as the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway becomes prehistoric rather than simply historic.

The heritage railway, which traditionally lays on high-profile family entertainment for February half-term, is this year hosting Jurassic Specials on February 19 and 20.

A spokesman said young visitors could pick up an activity book on arrival at the railway line.

She said: "See the Oxenhope Exhibition Shed transformed back to the Jurassic era, ride the specially-decorated diesel train and enjoy spotting the dinosaur eggs at each station.

"There’ll be cute baby dinosaurs for those not quite brave enough to meet the bigger boys, and live reptiles waiting to meet you too.

"Dare you smile at a crocodile? Meet the real life descendants of dinosaurs. Our trained handlers will help you to get close to these amazing animals.

"Rex is eight-feet tall and is as authentic as they come. See his huge teeth and hear him hear him roar!

"His Safari Ranger will guide him around, keep him in check and under control. He might be ferocious looking but don’t be scared, he’s funny and friendly really!

"Ritchie the mischievous Raptor might sound cute but he’s not fully trained yet and is ready to scare anyone who gets too close! Watch out for his sharp teeth.

"The cute baby dinosaurs are hungry for attention and not at all shy. They love to nibble fingers and take a good look around before letting out a baby roar."

Entry to the Exhibition Shed is by Dino Rover Ticket, which can be bought on the day for £18 adults, £15 concessions and £9 for children. Under-fives are free.

Ranger Training, which promises "lots of fun, laughter, shouting and roaring", costs an extra £3 per child and must be booked in, advance online.
