Readers were invited to nominate their favourite pub and then the top 15 were put to a public vote.

More than 1,000 votes were cast, through a coupon in the paper.

And the winner is the Royal Oak, at Damside, which polled 450.

As well as earning the coveted Best Pub title, it has been presented with a trophy and certificate.

Tenants Paddy and Lisa Gaskin said they were delighted to receive the accolade.

“It is a great honour,” added Paddy.

“It’s testament to the hard work we’ve put in over the past six years and the hard work that staff put in on a daily basis.

“We are so proud – and thankful to all our customers who voted for us.”

The couple took over the running of the Timothy Taylor’s pub in 2013.

“We changed things around and it is now a more family-orientated pub,” said Paddy, who was assistant manger at the premises prior to taking on the tenancy. About 15 people are employed there.
