GLUSBURN's Paralympic champion Danielle Brown MBE returned to her former primary school to inspire present pupils.

The British competitive archer, who won gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Beijing and London, dropped into Glusburn Community Primary School.

Danielle spoke to all year groups about what it takes to become a successful athlete, and how important it was to learn from times of adversity, and realise that when people fail it can help them in the future.

The children watched a video of Danielle's London 2012 final match where she won a gold medal, and heard about her recently-published book.

School head Richard Hunt said: "Sport is very much valued at Glusburn School, for its power to inspire, motivate and join people together; encouraging well-being both for the body and the mind.

"The introduction of PE days this term has ensured that all children are active and have the opportunity to routinely take part in sequenced PE lessons, coupled with after school clubs and competitive local competitions

"Who knows one of our current children could be a future gold medallist?"

Mr Hunt said Danielle's "exciting" new book helps children and young people at its core skills to support their future aspirations.

"It provides a survival kit for them to dip into when they need extra help or motivation. Some of the themes explored are goal setting, growth mindset, perseverance, getting organised and learning to fail well."
