CHILDREN at Sutton Community Primary School have set out to fill 50 shoeboxes for charity.
The pupils were issued the challenge as part of efforts by the village’s St Thomas’s Church to fill and distribute 150 shoeboxes to Keighley Women’s Refuge, the Salvation Army and POPI (Pass On Pre-loved Items).
The project began at the school’s Harvest Festival which has led by leaders of St Thomas’s Church and Sutton Baptist Church.
School head Fiona Beetles said: “One of the songs we chose, Thank You For A Million Billion Things, really summed up the message of our celebration this year.
“Each child who had brought a gift came forward during the service and, by the end, we had to give ourselves a round of applause and a pat on the back for the astonishing numbers of gifts collected!”
Fiona thanked parents for supporting their children and encouraging them to learn the power of giving.
The School Council will help pack the gifts into shoeboxes for distribution to 3 charities.
Fiona added: “Our aim is to fill between 30 and 50 shoeboxes as a school.”
