RECORD numbers converged on a club’s base for an annual festival.

Visitors from across the north of England headed to Keighley Model Railway Club on Sunday for its 12th 7mm Festival.

“It was the busiest it’s ever been,” said Steve Ward, for the club.

“We had people come from as far north as Newcastle and Cumbria, and from South Yorkshire.

“It was a fantastic day – a huge success.

“The festival has matured into one of the top events in the northern O-gauge calendar.”

Ten layouts were in operation, some provided by club members and others run by guest enthusiasts.

The favourite layout as indicated through public feedback was the Canalside Ironworks, by David Atkinson, from Penrith.

“It’s a brilliant layout – with a huge amount of work gone into it,” said Mr Ward.

“There will be another opportunity to see it at our annual exhibition next year.”

The festival also featured dedicated O-gauge traders, clinics and displays.

And a bring-and-buy table offered bargains to anyone interested in the scale.

Catering was provided by Denholme Scouts, with a range of hot and cold food and homemade cakes available throughout the day.

The festival is among several events staged by the club during the year.

Next on the programme is the Christmas open day, at the clubrooms – in Knowle Mill, South Street – on Sunday, December 29.

There will be layouts in all scales and visitors will have the chance to run trains received as Christmas presents.

Seasonal refreshments will be available at the event, from 10am to 4.30pm.

The club’s annual exhibition will take place at University Academy Keighley, in Green Head Road, on March 14 and 15 next year.

The exhibition draws visitors from across the country.

This year’s event saw 16 layouts in operation.

Regular club nights are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and there are Saturday-afternoon sessions. The junior section also meets on Saturdays. For more details, visit keighley-mrc.org.uk.
