KEIGHLEY’S Special Olympics horse rider T-Jay Wilson came out of Asda with more cash than he went in with.

The gold medal-winning world champion collected a cheque for £200 representing money awarded by the store to his sports club.

T-Jay, a member of Bradford Disability Sports & Leisure (BDSL), was a competitor in last year’s Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi.

He was recently the subject of a film by York University student Maisie Hardy about his bravery and achievement in reaching the top in the sport.

He went along to Asda’s Shipley store without his horse to meet staff, and see the results of their latest collection of green tokens.

Customers at the checkout are each given a token which they can drop into one of three slots, each representing a local charity.

BDSL funding officer Barry Thorne said Asda Bousquet’s Shipley community champion Mandy Godfrey was delighted to meet one of the group’s world champions.

He added: “We’ve worked closely with Asda throughout the district and had lots of collections in their stores. This is the third time we’ve taken part in the green tokens scheme.”

Bradford Disability Sport & Leisure runs several activities in Keighley, including twice-weekly athletics at University Academy Keighley, and the Wednesday Leisure Club.

The organisation is organising a fun run in Lister Park, Bradford, on October 20 at 10am, which includes 6K and 3K runs and a wheelchair race.
