SCHOOLCHILDREN across the Keighley district are being urged to ‘play safe’ this summer.
Northern Powergrid is warning youngsters about the dangers of playing near power lines and electricity substations.
And it is encouraging parents to help get the safety message across.
Geoff Earl – the company’s director of safety, health and environment – said: “We’re urging parents to help us by reminding their children of the very real dangers of electricity and not to climb pylons or play near overhead power lines or substations.
“Every year we spread our safety messages to thousands of youngsters but we know parents play a key role in bringing that message home.
“Just a few minutes chatting with your children can help them learn lifesaving information that could keep them and their friends safe.”
Northern Powergrid has produced a safety activity booklet, that can be downloaded for free from northernpowergrid.com/education-kids-activities.
It contains quizzes as well as information and advice.

Anyone who spots an object caught-up in a power line, or accidentally kicks a ball into a substation, should never try to retrieve it themselves. Call Northern Powergrid on 105 and help will be sent.
