TONGUES were wagging as Parkside students taught classes at Long Lee Primary School.

Foreign tongues that is, as the Cullingworth school’s year nine students delivered 15-minute French and Spanish lessons.

Working in groups of two or three over a couple of months, the teenagers prepared the lessons themselves in order to teach the younger children.

Running the sessions on a ‘carousel’ basis, they covered topics such as food, clothes, body parts, and places in a town.

Parkside language teacher Emily Naylor said her students demonstrated excellent leadership and language skills by working towards the Language Leaders Award in their own time.

She said: “The students really were a credit to the school and have worked so hard, at lunch and in their own time after school, to perfect their lessons and create their own resources."

Teachers at Long Lee Primary School were impressed with what the Parkside students produced and how confident they were in teaching younger students.

One said: “We definitely have budding teachers! The year 6 students really enjoyed their lessons.”
