NURSING home residents took a step back in time during a visit to a garden centre.

The group from the Five Rise home in Bingley enjoyed the recently-opened vintage penny arcade at Woodbank Nurseries, Harden.

Tea and cakes were served and residents were given strawberry plants to take back to the home.

“It was lovely to see everyone have such a good time – which was evident by the smiles on their faces,” said Stefan Dieu, from Woodbank.

He had contacted Five Rise Nursing Home after hearing about its replica street, designed to resemble how Bingley looked in the 1950s.

Jill Dowse, activity co-ordinator at the home, was delighted.

“I can’t believe just how many businesses have reached out to us wanting to be involved in providing the people we care for with a lovely experience – it’s quite overwhelming,” she said.

“We recently had a trip on the Worth Valley Railway, which evoked many memories and all residents had a thoroughly enjoyable day.”
