STUDENTS of Spanish fear the sun will go down on their long-running class in Keighley.

Members of the Spanish class at Keighley U3A need to find a new tutor or their group will fold.

U3A, the University of the Third Age, has been running classes at the Temple Row Centre on Wednesdays from 10.30am to noon.

U3A spokesman David Boddy said: “The class is of mixed abilities but cannot accept beginners.

“For several years a Spanish speaking lady has led the group. Unfortunately she has decided to stand down.

“This group needs a Spanish speaking person to take the lead. If no one can be found the group will have to disband, which would be very sad.

“The position is voluntary as the U3A Group is not permitted to pay leaders. Out-of-pocket expenses will be paid.”

Anyone able to help should call Sukhen Bhowmick on 01535 605377.

Keighley’s branch of the U3A has around 120 people who attend regular classes and social sessions.

Organisers last year issued an invitation for more retired and semi-retired people to join the various groups, either to learn new skills or pass on their experience to others.

U3A was set up in 1981 to bring older people together to study new skills and share existing interests, and soon spread nationally.
