THE RUSSIAN Philharmonic (of Novosibirsk) will close the latest international orchestral season at St George’s Hall in Bradford. The audience on Friday May 24 will hear what is regarded as one of the greatest Russian regional orchestras.

The ensemble, conducted by Thomas Sanderling, will perform two works by Tchaikovsky, his richly colourful and joyful Romeo & Juliet Overture and his Violin Concerto, performed by the acclaimed violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky.

Mussorgsky’s vivid and imaginative Pictures at an Exhibition will round off the evening’s programme, culminating in a rousing finale of ‘The Great Gate of Kiev’.

Radio broadcaster Danny Baker will follow his successful Cradle to Grave tour with another high-principled series of one-night stands. The Good Time Charlie’s Back! tour will be at St George’s Hall on Tuesday May 28.

A spokesman said: “Startling, high-kicking, fresh and eruptive, this one-man show sees Danny Baker recounting stories about his incredible life. From leaving school to a hectic career that includes writer on the New Musical Express, TV personality, Letterman-style chat show host, radio DJ and celebrity autobiographer, Danny will deliver his hilarious stories with boundless energy and wit.”

The Mail on Sunday has described Danny’s show as a delightful nostalgia fest, while the Mail on Sunday praised his “raft of cracking anecdotes”. The audience can expect a compelling, evocative account of Danny’s south London roots. The show is suitable for ages 14 and above.

St George’s Hall holds its gala reopening celebration weekend on June 1 and 2 with shows featuring Beverley Knight, Sarah Millican, Escala and Collabro.
