AN Eastburn teenager has been selected for a prestigious leadership course.

Laura Cook, 17, is among 40 young people from Yorkshire and Humberside chosen for a Rotary Leadership Award.

She will attend the five-day residential course in the summer.

The sessions are run by professional trainers and also utilise the mentoring skills of Rotarians, who provide feedback and support.

Laura was selected by Keighley Rotary Club, which has provided funding and will supply transport to and from the venue, near Halifax.

Keighley Rotarian Judy Hazlehurst said: "Laura is an ideal candidate.

"She is enthusiastic, hard working and focused.

"Laura has already learned many skills through Scouting and dance performance and feels that this course will enable her to make the best possible use of them.

"The course is very demanding, but I am sure that Laura is up to the challenge.

"On her return she will give a presentation about her experience to the club. All our members wish her well."
