A HOSPICE is toasting the return of a fundraising walk which takes in several Dales pubs.

Organisers are making final preparations for the Wharfedale Pub Walk, which is being repeated following the success of the inaugural event last year.

The walk, on Saturday, May 11, starts from the Upper Wharfedale rugby union club in Threshfield.

It will follow a ten-mile low-level route on public footpaths, suitable for walkers of all abilities.

All funds raised will go to Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice, Manorlands.

Backing is being provided by the Wharfedale Support Group, which will have a stall selling homemade cakes and pastries at Thorpe.

Pubs en route providing their support include The Old Hall at Threshfield; The Fountaine, Linton, the Red Lion at Burnsall and The Clarendon, Hebden.

And the walk finishes at Grassington, where the Foresters Arms, Devonshire and Black Horse are all within easy reach.

Molly Ralphson, community fundraiser at Manorlands, said the inaugural walk was enjoyed by everyone who took part and the number of participants registered for this year was well up.

“We are looking forward to hosting this event again,” she said.

“It really is a lovely walk through a beautiful part of the Yorkshire Dales and is suitable for the whole family.

“The Wharfedale Support Group gives its time on the day and members make the most delicious cakes – I know this as I have tried many myself!

“All our care services are completely free to patients and their families. However, we need to raise £2.1 million in donations this year to continue to provide our specialist services, and events like these really do help.”

Registration for the walk costs £13 for adults and £8 for accompanied children. There are also family tickets available. Participants receive a special T-shirt.

Walkers are also encouraged to obtain sponsorship.
