A WORTH Valley village post office has closed for the last time.
Cross Roads Post Office, in Halifax Road, shut its doors for good yesterday. (April 16)
Beverly Underwood, of Lees cum Cross Roads Village Association said: "Our association's Lorraine Clarke presented postmistress Angela Armstrong with a 'thank you' gift for all her years of help and support.
"The services of the post office will be sadly missed by all the village.
"The post office and shop had been there in one form or another for about 100 years. So it's sad to see it go, particularly for people who live at that end of the village. It's like part of the community has gone.
"It was such a highly valued, friendly place where people used to stand and have a natter. People are grateful for the service the post office provided and we can't thank Angela enough for what she did over the years."
As reported by the Keighley News in February, a last ditch attempt to find a buyer for this post office had failed.
The premises, which also included a small convenience store and news agents, was owned by Angela Armstrong who tried for several years to sell the business as a going concern.
She said she was sad to have had to close, and thanked staff, customers and friends who have offered her their support.
