Children from Oldfield Primary School had an active time indoors and out on a recent residential trip to Kingswood in the Dearne Valley.

The pupils from years four, five and six of the rural school near Oakworth had a fabulous time despite the snow.

School spokesman Tina Hume said the children took part activities such as fencing, climbing walls, archery and lasers.

She said: “Much hilarity ensued at all events - an ideal opportunity for the children to not only let their hair down but to learn new skills and to work together as a team.

“The school is in a state of limbo at the moment and this was just the thing needed to cheer up the children and staff. The staff and facilities at Kingswood are second to none and we will be returning.”

In recent weeks Oldfield Primary School, which has fewer than 50 pupils, has been fighting Government moves to impose academy status, with support from Keighley MP John Grogan.

The school was slapped with an academy order by the Department for Education after a damning Ofsted report last year, in which it was rated ‘inadequate’ and placed in special measures.
