A HOSPICE is seeking registered nurses to join its inpatient-unit team.

Manorlands says the recruitment campaign provides a "great opportunity" for nurses with a passion for specialist palliative and end-of-life care.

Hospice director, Lizzie Procter, said: "Our nurses work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure patients receive the best care possible.

"It’s a very different environment from other healthcare settings. Here staff have a chance to dedicate time to patients due to our nurse-to-patient ratio.

"We welcome newly-qualified nurses and offer a robust preceptorship and induction programme to ensure people have the best experience while working with us."

She added that anyone interested in working at the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice was welcome to visit to look around and chat to staff – call 01535 642308 to arrange a date and time.

Among those already part of the Manorlands nursing team is Fran McFarlane, who initially served as a volunteer at the hospice.

"In my previous career I worked as a co-ordinator on the legal team at a housing association," she said.

"I enjoyed it but felt removed from the residents as I was an office worker.

"In my spare time I volunteered at the hospice doing the tea trolley one evening a week, to feel I was making a bigger contribution to my community, and through that I began to realise what an incredible place it is.

"The warmth, kindness and friendliness of the team made me decide I wanted to retrain as a nurse."

She completed her training, and is now working in her "dream job" as a staff nurse.

"What I find most challenging is how many people assume hospice nursing is depressing," she added.

"I tell them to visit Manorlands for the day and see how fantastic it is!"
