A CARE trust is offering tips on how to avoid falls this winter.

The campaign, by Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust’s falls prevention team, is particularly targetting the elderly and those with mobility problems.

The team says the risks increase as people get older, and that incidents can have a severe impact on people’s quality of life and confidence.

New ‘stay well’ web pages have been launched by the trust, featuring videos and easy-to-read information.

Advice includes ensuring you wear correct and appropriate footwear, and that there are no tripping hazards – such as rugs or loose wires – in the home.

People are also urged to eat a balanced diet, with plenty of calcium and vitamin D to promote bone health, stay as active as possible and do strength and balance exercises.

Sharon Bond (pictured), leader of the falls prevention team, said: “Winter can be a difficult time for older people or those that struggle with mobility, so it’s important that everyone can access this advice to help them stay on their feet when out and about or at home.”
