A SCHOOL staged a series of remembrance-themed activities.

Children – and staff – from Wilsden Primary donned period costume from both world wars and took part in a procession through the village, to the war memorial, on Friday.

Residents and businesspeople turned out to show their support.

A two-minute silence was held.

John Davison – headteacher at Wilsden Primary, part of Focus-Trust – said: "It was fantastic to see such a good turnout on the day and it was great to get the whole community together to mark such an important occasion.

"Throughout the day we were raising money for the Royal British Legion and we'd like to thank our students, parents and all of the local residents and businesses who got involved and helped make the event a success.

"A special thank-you must go to Wilsden Parish Council for its support with organising the day and also to Bradford Council, which kindly arranged for the road leading from the school to the war memorial to be temporarily closed so that our students and staff could process safely through the village."

Following a service at the memorial, the pupils walked in procession back to the school where a display of military vehicles and equipment helped them learn more about the topic.

Mr Davison added: "From our perspective, it is important to teach the children about both sides of the war which is why we decided to bring in a range of military vehicles from both the Allied and German forces. It was lovely to see all of the children getting involved and asking questions.

"Moving forward, we hope this event can become an annual occasion that the whole village gets involved with."
