AN online tribute is being paid to villagers who served in the First World War.

Wilsden Parish Council is displaying on its website biographical details of those from the community who fought in the conflict.

There are currently more than 320 people listed, some of whom lost their lives and others who survived.

Their details can be viewed at wilsdenparishcouncil.gov.uk/wilsden-harecroft/wilsden-ww1-history?start=2.

Wilsden residents are also being invited to 'light-up a poppy', until November 25.

Poppies made from red tissue paper can be obtained free from the community post office in the village.

People are then asked to decorate their poppy and stick it in a window, with a lamp behind to illuminate it.

"The aim is to remember all the families which were keeping vigil for the return of their loved ones or mourning those who would not come back," said a spokesman.
