A CELEBRITY charity football match netted £2,100 for Manorlands.

The game, between Denholme United FC and Supporting Charities Football Club, featured a host of familiar faces.

Among those lining-up were actor Damien McKiernan – who plays Rory in Mrs Brown’s Boys – former Bradford City stars Lee Duxbury and Nathan Clarke, and WBO welterweight champion Darren Tetley.

TV personality Kelly Waite was a guest manager.

All proceeds from the match – which was won 7-4 by Supporting Charities – plus a raffle and auction, went to the Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice.

The event was organised in memory of Pat Fleming, who was cared for at Manorlands.

Her family and friends were delighted with the amount raised and said the match would now become an annual fixture for the hospice.

Pat’s daughter, Amy, added: “We are so grateful for everyone’s support and generosity.

“We can’t praise the hospice enough for the care it gave my mum and it’s great to be able to support Manorlands with this donation and make the match into an annual one.

“It was a brilliant day and I’d like to say a huge thank-you to all the players, spectators, businesses and everyone who contributed to making it so great.”

Tribute is also paid by Hayley Ibbotson, a senior fundraiser at the hospice.

“I’d like to thank everyone involved in making this match such a success,” she said.

“People rely heavily on our services and we’re only able to continue helping those who need us thanks to the local community getting behind us and raising funds.

“This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved by a group of like-minded individuals keen to make a difference.”

Manorlands supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families at the hospice and in the community, across an area covering Craven, Airedale and Wharfedale as well as parts of Bradford.

All services are free to patients and their loved ones, but it costs £9,000 a day to keep the hospice doors open.

Only a small part of the cost is covered by statutory funds.

Most of the funds have to be raised through voluntary donations.
