AN 83-year-old Keighley woman was arrested following a crash in which a motorcyclist died.

The woman was driving a red Volkswagen car which was involved in a collision with the motorbike, a blue Yamaha YZF-R1, and two other vehicles – a black Audi S3 and a blue Saab 93.

The motorcyclist, a 38-year-old man from Merseyside, was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Yorkshire Police say the woman arrested in connection with the incident has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

They are appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident – which happened on the A65 near Ingleton at 2.45pm yesterday – or saw any of the vehicles prior to the collision, to come forward.

The crash was one of two on the A65 within the space of three hours yesterday, in which motorcyclists died.

In the second collision, just south of Settle at 5.40pm, the 61-year-old rider of a blue Suzuki was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary but died shortly afterwards.

Sgt Halloway said: "Both of these devastating incidents happened on the A65 in the Craven area within a few hours of each other.

"I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on the A65 yesterday to get in touch with North Yorkshire Police. Even if you did not witness the collisions, you might have some information which could assist the investigations into these tragic events.

"My thoughts remain with all those involved in the collisions, especially with those who have lost a loved one."
