THE NATION was gripped by wedding fever again this month as Princess Beatrice treated her subjects to a royal celebration.

Now it’s the turn of Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateurs as they invite the common people to join them for an aristocratic occasion.

The public can join celebrations for the betrothal of Alexis Pointdextre to Aline Sangazure during a whole week festivities from November 12 to 17 at the Baptist Church.

There will be a banquet in the garden party during the nightly event as the group stages the Gilbert and Sullivan comic opera The Sorcerer.

The Sorcerer has been invited along by Alexis, sparking of a magical medley of G&S songs and comic confusions.

Amateurs spokesman said: “Alexis has suggested he brings love potion to spice things up a bit – what can possibly go wrong?”

“Over the years Haworth West Lane Baptist Amateur Operatic Society have squeezed many settings into the Baptist Church for much the annual Gilbert & Sullivan performances – a castle, the deck of a ship, a Japanese department store, a Cornish beach, a court of law and even the Houses of Parliament!

“This year should be relatively straightforward, with just a mansion and a marquee. We won’t be inviting Paul Hollywood or any bakers along though…”

The Sorcerer was Gilbert and Sullivan’s third collaboration and was based on a Christmas story entitled An Elixir Of Love.

Alexis is obsessed with idea of love levelling all ranks and social distinctions, and his love potion causes everyone in the village to fall in love with the first person they see. This results in the pairing of comically mismatched couples.

The Sorcerer will be staged nightly from the Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.
