AN Oakworth dairy farmer who covers the equivalent of two marathons a week at his job is promoting the health benefits of his product.

Jonathan Sharp, of Tewitt Hall Farm, revealed he takes roughly 171,460 steps a week, which equates to 85 miles. He said: “The running of a farm and the upkeep of healthy cows is a seven day a week job, with regular 12-hour days.

“I ensure I keep my energy levels up with plenty of dairy through the day. My evening meal sets me up nicely for my early start. As a family, we love to use the core product from our farm, milk, as part of a healthy diet.”

Mr Sharp is one of 2,400 UK Arla dairy farmers. As a co-operative member he owns a share of the business meaning both Arla and co-operative farmers collaborate to safeguard their industry.

Lise Larson, senior nutrition specialist at Arla, said: “Milk is recommended by experts and governments as part of a healthy diet for all of us.

“Besides the well-known high calcium content, milk is high in iodine – which helps maintain normal cognitive function, as well as vitamin B2, which reduces tiredness and fatigue.”
