A CRICKET club hopes community spirit will have no boundaries as it raises cash for its junior section.

Denholme Cricket Club is among just ten sports organisations from across the region shortlisted in a Cash for Kids Sporting Challenge.

Each finalist has to raise as much as possible by October 8.

Nine of the clubs will receive match funding of up to £2,500, and the overall winner will collect as much as £5,000.

Denholme CC is staging a series of events and is urging the public to get behind it.

A coffee and cake morning takes place at Denholme Mechanics’ Institute on Saturday, September 29, from 10am.

A race and games night is being held at Denholme Conservative Club on Saturday, October 6, from 7.30pm. Food will be served.

And bids are being invited for a signed Yorkshire County Cricket Club T20 shirt.

“We’re delighted to have been shortlisted from hundreds of local clubs as part of the Radio Aire Cash for Kids Sporting Challenge,” said Ryan Judson, the Denholme club’s fundraising officer.

“All the money we raise through the challenge will be used for the benefit of our junior cricketers, and to aid junior development at Denholme CC going forward.

“This will include improving playing and changing facilities, purchasing new equipment and the provision of coaching for the stars of tomorrow.

“We hope the people of Denholme will support us as we try to raise as much money as possible.”
