AN OAKWORTH campaign group is calling for an ongoing commitment to resolve what it says are road safety problems in the village.
Oakworth resident Emrys Marks said he and other local people have been collecting signatures for a petition asking Bradford Council to implement a long-term road safety policy for the area.
He explained: “We want the council to do a traffic engineer’s survey of traffic flow through Oakworth.
“We’re asking for the speed limit in the whole village to be unified, so we can become a 20-mph zone. Currently we have four different speed limits in Oakworth.
“We are asking for clearer speed limit signs and for some form of speeding enforcement. We’ve identified particular problem areas, including Lidget, Station Road, Providence Road and also Lane Ends, which is where I’ve been told by several people that speeding is horrendous.”
Mr Marks, 67, who lives in Lidget, said so far he and his fellow campaigners had accumulated 1,200 signatures by going door-to-door
Their petition has been distributed to village shops and pubs, and the campaign group has its own Facebook page at: “Oakworth Road Safety Campaigners”.
