FREE advice to reduce the risk of falls will be on offer at an event in Keighley.

A team from Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust will be at the Airedale Shopping Centre on Friday, October 5, between 10am and 2pm.

As well as receiving tips about preventing falls, visitors can also have their blood pressure checked and pick-up podiatry and fire prevention advice.

Representatives from Age UK and the National Osteoporosis Society will be present.

Advice will also be on offer about preventing pressure ulcers, and a continence team will answer questions.

The event is part of a falls awareness week, during which the care trust will also join with Bradford Council and Age UK to stage various activities.

Sharon Bond (pictured), falls prevention team leader at the care trust, said: “Falls are the biggest cause of accidents in the home but they are not an inevitable part of getting older. Many can be prevented and we want to provide people with information and advice to try to stop some of these falls from happening.

“Things such as clearing walkways so you don’t trip or doing simple seated exercises to improve your balance can make a huge difference to someone’s likelihood of falling.”
