REBELS and Angels is the title of a talk at the Bronte Parsonage Museum focusing on tragic heroine Catherine Earnshaw.

The talk on Tuesday, August 7 aims to shed light on one of the most controversial women in literature, who is loved and hated in equal measure.

The speaker will look at Catherine and other female characters in Emily Brontes novel Wuthering Heights, and how they have been interpreted, exploring possible sources of the characters in Emily’s reading, her earlier writing, and even her life.

A spokesman said: “Whatever you think about Catherine, she breaks the mould of the traditional heroin and flies in the face of conventional female behaviour of her time.”

The talk, which is free with admission to the Haworth museum, will be held at 11.30am and 2pm.

The latest Late Night Thursday will be on August 16, when visitors can go along up to 8pm to hear stories from resident John Brown and Bronte servant Tabby Ackroyd.

Admission is free after 5.30pm to anyone with proof of residence in the BD22, BD21 and BD20 postcode areas.
