SIR - I write yet again about the deplorable state of our streets and parks and other areas in our city blighted by discarded litter. Everywhere I go I have to walk through rubbish that has been dumped, waiting for someone else to clear it up.
In some areas around my neighbourhood, bins are in short supply but even when there is one provided rubbish accumulates around it.
I try to keep my surrounding areas tidy and free from litter and, along with a gentlemen with his trusty trolley and litter picking equipment who appears occasionally, we try to make it a nice clean area to live.
I would like to congratulate the various litter pickers groups I read about in your paper who do a super job.
Recently it's been well documented that Bradford Council is in a financial mess with spending cuts here there and everywhere, but that doesn't mean we have to live surrounded by litter and for that matter overgrown hedgerows that haven't been touched since last year to the best of my knowledge.
City of Culture 2025 is almost upon us and littered streets, overgrown hedgerows and general waste everywhere hardly portrays the right impressions this city desperately needs to attract visitors to what is under the surface at least a fine city.
If there is a bin nearby, use it. If there's not one nearby take it home with you and dispose of litter properly and maybe take some responsibility and have some pride in your city, as some areas are resembling a landfill site which will reflect badly on the city during our showcase year.
