SIR - Re T&A article on August 9 on Leeds Bradford Airport's plans to expand.
I'm glad we have a local airport. However expanding airports will massively increase our carbon emissions when we need to radically reduce them, if we are to have a liveable future.
Prof Kevin Anderson, Dept Climate and Energy, Manchester University says: "The trend line tells us that we are heading towards 3 to 4 degrees Centigrade of warming across this century - an absolute climate catastrophe, and it’s a catastrophe for all species, including our own."
Expanding our local airport won't make our future better. If we leave it to others to act on climate we will not get the change we need.
I'm grateful to GALBA (Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport) for keeping us informed and working for a safer future for all of us which means a world where we don't expand airports. That's the future I want my kids and people the world over to inherit!
